Our Director

From the Director

Hello! My name is Holli Nicknair. It is such an honor to be asked to be Mainely Girls new Director through this evolutionary time of change, healing & growth. The time to empower our girls has never been more important than it is today! Women are rising and Aroostook County girls are becoming our future leaders.

Yet, these times bring more challenges than ever before…The Covid-19 Pandemic threatens to separate our already isolated northern Maine rural communities from the resources, tools and support they need. Our Aroostook County girls are experiencing even more stress, anxiety, depression and loneliness since the pandemic started, and we have already seen higher rates of suicide & substance abuse issues than across the rest of the state. Our girls need more support. They deserve to not just survive, but to THRIVE!

This year, Mainely Girls is celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary! Over the years Mainely Girls has offered yearly conferences, theater groups, mentor partnerships, book clubs and much more. This year, Mainely Girls is striving to move into new territory and will potentially be providing online & outdoor programming to address the increased stress, anxiety, loneliness and depression that naturally arises amidst such unprecedented challenges. We are aiming to connect Girls with fun opportunities to learn, grow, make new friends and support each other along the way!

We envision a combination of online & outdoor ongoing programs to engage and empower our Girls. Yet none of this will be possible with out your help!

Mainely Girls is financially at its lowest point it has ever been in its entire 25 year history.  Dedicated board members contributed about $1,000 that enabled me to work 5 hours a week for two months to assess the girls needs, explore funding and propose programming. These efforts and the addition of 4 new board members are certainly a good beginning, but not enough to sustainably carry us forward.  We are researching grants that will potentially fund our visionary programming, but usually these grants do not cover associated staffing fees and will take time to secure.  Without funding for salaries & programming, we will not be able to help our girls really thrive. And so, WE TRULY NEED YOUR HELP!

To celebrate our 25th Anniversary, we are striving to raise $25,000. by the end of this fiscal year June 30, 2021. Your donations will connect girls in Aroostook County with peer support, safe spaces, resources, fun learning opportunities and tools they need to thrive.

Please consider celebrating Mainely Girls 25th Anniversary with a monthly
donation of $25, $250, $2,500 or whatever amount you can contribute!

Every Donation Counts!

We understand that there are so many worthy efforts to invest in during this unprecedented time, yet believe this investment is sure to make a lasting impact in the lives of our loved ones….daughters, granddaughters, nieces & friends, as well as our Greater Aroostook County community.

Let’s give our girls what they need to not just survive, but thrive!

Please Donate Now!

Thank you so much for your dedication to empowering girls in Northern Maine to Thrive! I look forward to getting to know you! You can learn more about me here.

Thanks Again! Together, we will nurture confident, resilient and connected Girls!

With so much gratitude,

Holli Nicknair
